I make different forms of texts using simple but often ambiguous words and phrases, mostly through printmaking techniques.

My work springs from two related areas of interest. One explores ideas of language as a system underpinned by assumptions of authority. The other explores reading and writing as physical acts (this at a time when written communication is moving rapidly towards the virtual).

There are gaps and overlaps between reading and viewing, text and image, the hand and the machine. Through compression and distillation, and by constructing time-consuming drawings of words and phrases, I try to create small breathing spaces in which we can pause and look back at language outside the excesses of commodified language surrounding us.

I am a member of East London Printmakers, an artists' collective based in Hackney. I live and work in London.
